A History of the Class 59s, The American Revolution Continues with the 59/2s
Following on from the successful introduction of the Class 59s by Foster Yeoman and ARC that I covered in a previous video, the privatised UK energy company National Power ordered a single locomotive in 1991 to operate trains of limestone to Drax Power Station in Yorkshire.
This locomotive numbered 59201 was built at EMD factory in London, Ontario, and arrived in the UK via Hull docks on the 17th February 1994.
Five more locomotives were ordered in 1994 which were intended to work power station coal traffic. They were numbered 59202 to 59206 and arrived in Hull on the 4th August 1995. They were based at a newly constructed National Power depot at Ferrybridge.

    You seem to have missed the drainage tunnel under the railway you can just about get inside its before yeoveney halt as you come up the steps turn right towards Colnbrook its about 20 feet along. I spent around 40 years over there i lived opposite in Moorlane.

    My father was moormaster as was my grandmother my uncle and cousin live in the old coach house yeoveney lodge. There are still remains of yeoveney halt. That's Staines moor..

    The class 66 and 67 are leased by ANGEL trains. The class 60 were bought,when EWS aquired some British Rail companies(Sectors) such as load haul , Rail freight distribution. In Germany the class 66 are limited to 100 km/h because of their braking abilities..therefore the class 77(100km/h 450 KiloNewton) was aquired by European Cargo Rail for France /subsidiary of DB Cargo Germany, later renamend as DB Cargo France at first. Then they were sent to Germany to replace diesel hydraulics diesel class 225 / 217 /218 and diesel electric diesel made in Russia for East German Deutsche Reichsbahn 232, 233 ..They proved to be powerful enough to haul trains up to 3.999 metric tonnes ! Even, if starting a train moving inside a grade once again ! No diesel engine does it better !! The class 77 was replaced by class 66 from UK, as well some class 66 of UK were sent to Poland, like FREIGHTLINER did it ! The class 66 to replace Class 60 are regeared to 100 km/h which means more pulling power 410 Kn >>> 450 Kn !

      58s were BR built at Doncaster with thinner bodies to the cabs built in the early 1980s to 85 used on coal train locos. The 59s are as shown & explained.

      Class 92 locomotives have a top speed of 87 mph (140 km/h) and I think the wagons are restricted to 75 mph.

    Azuma apparently means East, which is a shame as it would have been cooler if it was just a-zoomer! But they actually look best in GWR livery anyhow. But tbh I really struggle to find anything exciting about the 'tachis... nope, I got nothing... but I guess that's because I'm a pendolino kind of guy. Actually I'm wrong, the Azuma's exist to make the Class 91/Mk4s still look special.

    Amazing video I train spot on the grain and I always see the HS2 stop boards train! And the oil train and usually 66796 dose oil train with 66795! On the weekend it was 66796 66718 66771 and 66778 doing the oil train 🤩! Once again great video! ❤😊

    The most stupid idea selling off the 37’s. More reliable than most of todays trains and locomotives.. get Summat with a mtu/ man/ maybach Mercedes’ and parts aren’t cheap where as British locos are reliable.

      They are commercial profit making operation. They only run because there is a demand for tickets to ride behind a steam locomotive.

      @@LinesideSouthEast And no questions raised on the levels of pollution this causes by burning coal ? I know thermal power stations also burn coal but that is processed coal and under controlled conditions. The coal burnt by locomotive engines is just raw coal and that is evident with the volume of smoke billowing.

    It's great they've preserved the route and station for the locals and visitors to enjoy, but for me it's a little sad as I remember days out in Folkestone when I was a kid and seeing the trains and ferry terminal all going on there, but hey that's progress . Enjoyed watching thanks.
